Wellness is a business strategy
Instituting a wellness program in the workplace has become a business strategy for many organizations. With the skyrocketing cost of healthcare and the increasing number of claims due to preventable chronic diseases, companies are running out of options to protect their own financial health. Cigna estimates that 70% of healthcare costs are related to preventable chronic diseases, all of which are lifestyle related. To change this trend, behavior modification is required as it relates to lifestyle choices. Since wellness addresses the whole person, including health, nutrition, exercise, stress levels, mental health and “spirit”, it can impact a company's entire organization. For a wellness program to have a meaningful impact, the leadership of an organization must first lay the foundation within the company culture for the program to take root and bear fruit.
